What is Reward

Reward is an incentive plan to reinforce the desirable behavior of workers or employers and in return for their service to the organization. Rewards can be monetary in the form of salary or non-monetary in the form of awards for some special services to the company or simply giving an employee a work which enjoys doing. The primary objective of organizations in giving rewards is to attract, maintain and retain efficient, high performing and motivated employees. According to Armstrong and Murlis, reward management refers to “The process of Formulating and Implementation of Strategies and policies that aim to reward people fairly, equitably and constantly in accordance with their value to the organization”

Importance Of Rewarding Employees  

How important is it to reward employees? A cash bonus for the complete year's worth of labor can be given to staff, or it can be as simple as praising them for their hard work on a project.

  • Motivation & performance: A gratifying award is a fantastic approach to inspire workers and raise productivity levels.
  • Recognition: Rewarding employees demonstrates to them that the company values and acknowledges their hard work. When workers feel appreciated, they will be more motivated to perform their everyday jobs.
  • Employee self-esteem: Acknowledging outstanding work by employees in front of their colleagues is a terrific method to boost their self-esteem.
  • Attract and retain talent: Performance-driven workers are drawn to companies that reward their top performers generously. Additionally, it can be an excellent strategy for competing with other businesses to draw in performance-driven workers.
  • Job satisfaction :An incentive can have a significant impact on workers' general job happiness.

·     Employee Rewards Policy

    When awarding staff members, the company has to adhere to certain guidelines; if not, they risk inciting jealousy among coworkers or maybe facing legal repercussions. An organization must therefore design a scheme to fairly compensate its staff. We refer to this scheme as a reward policy. 

A reward policy must be:

  • Fair: A company's incentive program cannot be rigged to benefit workers in any way. It must treat everyone equally.
  • AccessibleTo ensure that all employees know that the company has a fair reward policy, it should be easily accessible and understandable by all eligible employees.
  • Clear: The incentive policy should be simple enough for everyone to grasp and leave no room for misunderstanding.
  • Well-structured: a paper that follows a defined format, including an introduction, goal, scope, aim, set of rules, and reward.

  • Intrinsic Rewards : physical benefits that employees receive for completing important task and doing it correctly. Examples of intrinsic rewards at work include pride in one's job, respect from managers and coworkers, personal development, receiving more trust from managers, enjoying one's work, feeling accomplished, learning something new, or increasing one's expertise in a certain field.
  • Extrinsic Rewards:a visible and tangible prize given to a person or employee in recognition of reaching a goal. Extrinsic benefits might take the form of profit-sharing, bonuses, raises, promotions, or even improved workspaces like personal offices.  

Elements of Effective Rewards Management System

  • Comprehensiveness': The most effective reward programs acknowledge both big and little achievements. It is imperative to recognize and commemorate every small accomplishment in order to encourage a consistent, ongoing improvement. It's critical to comprehend the connection between enormous achievements and the little victories required to achieve them.
  • Equity and reward management: A just system of incentives is also beneficial. What matters most in a reward management system is the equity with which team members are paid and rewarded for their contributions.
  • Timeliness: Timely awards are often more successful than prizes that are awarded on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual basis. Over time, the chance that praise will have a favorable effect decreases while the chance that it won't have a beneficial effect increases. It's also easier to completely forget to give it. When someone makes a big contribution and gets recognized for it right away, there's a clear connection between the act and the recognition.
  • Specificity: Workers deserve recognition for their outstanding work. Rewards and recognition are more likely to make an impression when they are specific to the contribution.
  • Culture Alignment: An excellent reward program enhances and supports the values that comprise your company's culture. Even though each of the aforementioned elements can be a part of any culture, it's important to think about how they will work in different corporate settings.
  • Consistency: Decisions for award distribution are not made randomly or without reason, based on the opinions of different persons. This method of managing rewards is known as a consistent strategy. They don't mistakenly deviate from what is deemed just and equal.

  • Transparency: When every person in the company is fully aware of how the compensation systems operate and affect them, there is transparency.

Why is Reward Management important?

  • Attracting and Retaining top talents: In every industry, you have to offer the finest workers what they deserve in order to draw and retain them. One of the best tactics to attract and retain great talent is reward management. If workers don't feel valued at the company, they will quit.
  • Improve company culture: A great strategy for enhancing corporate cultures is reward management. The organization builds a good reputation in the marketplace through effective reward management. Every firm wants to be well-known in the industry, and reward management will be helpful.

  • Motivation and ProductivityThe most effective methods for inspiring staff members are reward systems. Improved incentive programs incentivize employees to compete with one another, which increases output and effort. In the end, this is beneficial for the organization's overall productivity.
  • LoyaltyEffective incentive management is one way that organizations can make sure that their staff members are more committed to the organization. A well-designed incentive program can improve the way staff members represent the organization to the public. In fact, this will result in higher returns for the organization.
  • Creates a healthy environment: People's health is impacted by the amount of time they spend at work. In a balanced work atmosphere where good work is valued and underperformance is not penalized, people would feel less stressed.

Employee rewards programs are a useful tool for keeping employees motivated to complete their daily tasks. For individuals who give the most, the current trend toward performance-related reward systems is intended to result in higher incentives and motivation. However, because these incentive systems are meant to influence people's behavior, their design is intricate.
